The Department of Home Economics of Pampanga Agricultural College was established when the department headed by its first chairman in the person of Prof. Lina M. Battad incorporated Home Economics as major field of specialization to its Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, (BSA) curriculum, which course graduated 16 pioneer students in April 1982.
In June 1982, the Department gained its autonomy by offering a course centering its field to Home Economics. The degree of Bachelor of Science in Home Economics (BSHE) with Home Economics Education and Home Extension as their major.
In response to the need to train manpower towards food industry, Bachelor of Home Economics major in Food Processing was born. The course was duly approved by the Board of Trustees in a referendum numbered 97-08, dated April 4, 1997.
With the increase of its student population and demand, the Department is gradually expanding its facilities and now instituting more academic programs, namely; BSHE major in Clothing and Allied Arts and Bachelor of Science in Hotel and Restaurant Management.
Home Economics was renamed into Home Technology as approved by the Board of Trustees in a Resolution No. 15, series of 2008. In view of this, the Department of Home Economics is now the Institute of Home Science and Technology.
The Institute is also in partnership with the Office of Business Affairs in relation with the business opportunity being handles by the Institute, namely; PAC Cafeteria, Farmer's Training Center, TOGA project and uniforms.
