Biography: Fernan I. Camara is an experienced academic and industry professional with a background in the food and beverage industry. After spending six years in Singapore’s food and beverage sector, Fernan made the move to academia in June 2018, where they have been sharing their expertise and knowledge with students ever since. As a result of their industry experience, Fernan is able to provide students with a global perspective on hospitality and management. Currently, Fernan is managing a training center while teaching core hospitality subjects. In addition to teaching, Fernan is also pursuing a Master’s degree, with a research focus on the knowledge and awareness of non-Muslim consumers towards Halal food. Fernan has been actively involved in research projects, including the successful 2022 study on the development of functional food products and ingredients from coffee and mulberry. Fernan is currently part of a team working on two research projects, the first of which is a two-year study funded by the Department of Science and Technology-PCAARRD on the conservation and management of Mt. Arayat Protected Landscape (MAPL) through enhanced community participation. The second project focuses on drawing lessons from the COVID-19 pandemic and charting a way forward for ecotourism policy, specifically for the case of Sasmuan Pampanga Coastal Wetlands. Fernan is a dedicated and passionate professional who is committed to sharing their knowledge and skills with their students and contributing to the advancement of research in their field.
