MISSION OF THE CAS RESEARCH PROGRAM

The College of Arts and Sciences Research Program aims to help faculty and students to become more innovative, creative and productive. Further, these may also assist in the effectiveness of teaching and learning process, thus promote the quality of the life in the community.

OBJECTIVES

  1. To conduct essential researches that will serve as guidelines in promoting the quality of education in particular and the quality of life in general;
  2. To transform the knowledge learned or gained into output-based projects and activities; and
  3. To motivate the research potentials of teachers and serve as catalysts of bright and new ideas.

STRATEGIC RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

1.     Environment / Biodiversity Rehabilitation and preservation of forest resources particularly Mt. Arayat and the environment as a whole Biodiversity researches of flora and fauna in Mt. Arayat
  • Inventory, systematic and diversity of flora and fauna in Mt. Arayat and its environs (including Candaba swamp and Pampanga River)
Generation of new found knowledge and technologies that will address problems on climate change Bioremediation / Phytoremediation
  • Bioremediation and phytoremediation studies to treat different types of pollutions (e.g. Bioremediation of heavy metal contaminated rivers; reclamation of closed dumpsites by phytoremediation; plastic degration using beneficial microorganisms)
2.     Ethnobotany / Natural Products Development of natural products Medicinal plants researches
  • Piscicidal, mollusicidal, and insecticidal properties of various plants (application for agricultural pest control)
Generation of new found knowledge and technologies that will address problems on climate change Ethnobotanical practices
  • Nutriceutical, cytotocity, phytochemical screening, and anti-tumor potentials of various plants (application on health)
3.     Health, Nutrition and Food Security Improvement of agriculture, health and nutrition Organic Agriculture/Natural Farming
  • Organic fertilizer production and composting using beneficial microorganisms
