FAQs
Q: What do I have to submit for a patent or UM application?
A: All applicants shall submit 1) an accomplished IP-TBMO Invention Disclosure Form (Hard copy or Google form), 2) supporting documents (project documents or thesis copy), 3) photos of the technology being applied, and 4) prior art search report.
Q: Would it be fine if I just apply my design for copyright?
A: It is important to note that IP rights have specific scope of protection, and they may not be used as substitute of the others. If you would apply for copyright, you would only seek protection over the actual drawing of the design, but not the design (and its features) itself.
Q: Is copyright registration required before I acquire my rights over my creative work?
A: As a rule of thumb, your work is granted automatic protection upon its creation; however, we encourage registration so that we could maximize your rights management and enforcement.
Q: Is copyright notice required upon submission?
A: Yes! A copyright notice should be present so that it would be known that the copyright of your work is owned by you and/or the University. It may be written in the form “PHILIPPINE COPYRIGHT (YEAR) © BY (University), (Author’s name), and/or (Other copyright owners)”
Q: I am a PSAU stakeholder. What do I need to pay for the application of my work/invention?
A: Since it is in our mandate, we currently provide technical and financial assistance for PSAU stakeholders’ end-to-end application/registration process.
Q: I am not a PSAU stakeholder. What do I need to pay for the application of my work/invention?
A: We would be happy to assist you in applying, but filing/application fees are not covered in our services. We also have assistance fees in accomplishing your application forms, prior art search reports, claim drafts, and other documentary requirements.
