Pampanga State Agricultural University (PSAU) continues to expand its international linkages as faculty members from the College of Veterinary Medicine joined a scientific visit and collaborative research meeting hosted by Osaka Metropolitan University (OMU) in Japan on July 4, 2025, at the Rinku Campus. This initiative is part of the ongoing partnership formalized under a Memorandum of Understanding signed on February 26, 2024, between PSAU and OMU.

Representing PSAU were Dr. Rogelio P. Carandang Jr. (Associate Professor and Director for Research and Development), Dr. Aris F. Miclat (Associate Professor), Dr. Frederick P. Tan (Faculty and Researcher), Dr. Jan Jorvy Mhil G. Tayag (Faculty and Researcher) and Assoc. Prof. Jacob Anderson C. Sanchez (Researcher and Associate Professor in the Department of Biology). The delegation was formally invited by Dr. Shinji Yamasaki, Professor of Veterinary International Prevention of Epidemics, to participate in a two-day scientific exchange scheduled on July 3–4, 2025.

The joint meeting brought together several esteemed faculty members from OMU’s Graduate School of Veterinary Science, including Dr. Norio Yamagishi, Professor and Dean; Dr. Mitsuaki Moriyama, Professor and Vice Dean; Dr. Masami Miyake, Professor of Veterinary Pathology; Dr. Mitsuru Kuwamura, Professor of Veterinary Pathology; Dr. Masayuki Horie, Professor of Microbiology; Dr. Shinji Yamasaki, Professor of Veterinary International Prevention of Epidemics; and Dr. Atsushi Hinenoya, Associate Professor of Veterinary Bacteriology. These experts engaged in active dialogue with the PSAU team to discuss institutional research priorities, graduate program offerings, and potential areas for collaboration in veterinary health, infectious disease prevention, and zoonotic research.

Held at Room C-401 of OMU’s Rinku Campus, the meeting featured institutional presentations, academic exchanges, and collaborative planning sessions that aimed to strengthen mutual understanding and research engagement between the two universities. Both institutions emphasized their commitment to long-term cooperation in advancing scientific knowledge and improving both animal and public health outcomes.

This international engagement also reflects PSAU’s strong commitment to advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By promoting collaborative research on veterinary and zoonotic diseases, the initiative supports SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being. Through faculty and academic exchange and the advancement of graduate education, it contributes to SDG 4: Quality Education. Most importantly, by fostering scientific partnerships and global collaboration, the initiative reinforces SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, emphasizing PSAU’s growing role in the international research and academic community.

As PSAU continues to pursue global academic excellence, this partnership signifies a meaningful milestone in expanding international visibility, strengthening research impact, and contributing to a more sustainable and healthier world.
