In line with this year’s commencement theme, “Scholars of Today, Stewards of a Sustainable and Blissful Tomorrow,” graduating undergraduate and graduate students of Pampanga State Agricultural University gathered today, June 10, at the PSAU Palayamanan for their annual tree planting activity.

This year, students planted the university’s prized tamarind varieties — Golden Sweet and Aglibut Sweet — both known for their exceptional flavor and minimal tartness. These signature varieties reflect PSAU’s ongoing commitment to sustainable agriculture and environmental care.

Leading the event was Dr. Carren C. Juico, Chair Tree Planting Committee, with strong support from the Tamarind RDE Center led by Asst. Prof. Warlina M. Guzman, together with Mr. Carlo G. Cunanan. Also actively involved were faculty members and deans from the College of Forestry and Agroforestry and the College of Agriculture Systems and Technology, particularly from the Animal Science and Crop Science Departments, who also form part of the committee. The Office of Admissions and Registration, headed by Dr. Alawi C. Canlas, also provided valuable assistance.

Faculty members and deans from other colleges joined in the planting — making it not just a symbolic act, but a shared step toward a greener, more sustainable future.

This tradition is more than just planting trees — it’s a powerful gesture of stewardship that aligns with SDG 13: Climate Action and SDG 15: Life on Land, as the university continues to nurture a culture of sustainability and resilience for generations to come.
