Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) successfully organized a benchmarking activity within the premises of Pampanga State Agricultural University (PSAU) on May 15, 2025, mainly the Bamboo and Rattan RDE Center.
The visit featured a comprehensive orientation on PSAU’s research initiatives, operational methodologies, and measurement standards at the relevant center. Additionally, the initiative included a tour that showcased the various bamboo species cultivated within the university grounds. As such, it also heavily underscored the wide-ranging application of bamboo in the infrastructure industry.
Representing PSAU were Assoc. Prof. Menrado Gatan, Ms. Winnie Patiu, and Mr. Michael Barrientos. MMSU, meanwhile, was represented by Dr. Charlie Batin, Mr. Charlie Maine Cacactin, Mr. Bonne Jovi Orteza, Ms. Shena Rose Garcia, Mr. George Icalla, Mr. Jeffrei Tumomba, and Mr. Melvin Ilaga.
Ultimately, the activity significantly aligns with SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure by utilizing bamboo as innovative and affordable construction material; SDG 15: Life on Land by enhancing biodiversity efforts through sustainable bamboo cultivation; and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals by further exemplifying the present academic institutions’ partnership due to their shared goals.
